RELAX WITH THE SEDATION DENTIST IN LAWRENCEBURG

Dr. Oyler is a skilled and experienced dental professional, so you can be certain the treatment you receive from him and his staff will be excellent. However, sometimes that just isn’t enough to make patients relax, “open wide” and leave the rest to us. If dental anxiety and fear are preventing you from having the dental health care you need, then speak to us about sedation dentistry. With this service, you’ll be able to relax while Dr. Oyler, your sedation dentist in Lawrenceburg, takes good care of your smile.

Types of Sedation Dentistry in Lawrenceburg

Dr. Oyler offers two different types of sedation dentistry. The first is nitrous oxide. More commonly known as laughing gas, this provides a mild level of sedation. Once you are comfortably seated in the dentist’s chair, a small plastic mask is positioned over your nose. While you blissfully inhale a measured amount of nitrous oxide and oxygen, Dr. Oyler and his team work on your smile.

Patients say that the effects of nitrous oxide make them feel a bit lightheaded and very relaxed. You’ll remain awake during your treatment. Once the mask is removed, the effects wear off almost instantaneously so you can drive and carry on with the rest of your day’s routine. Nitrous oxide is perfect for patients that need just a bit of help relaxing during standard visits for dental checkups or simple restorative procedures such as fillings.

The other type of sedation dentistry offered in our office is oral sedation. With this, Dr. Oyler prescribes a mild anti-anxiety or sedative medication for you to take before coming in for your appointment. The dosage you take will depend on your level of anxiety. Regardless of the dosage, you will need to arrange for a family member or friend to drive you to and from your appointment. With a sedative in your system, you cannot drive.

Soon after taking the prescribed pill, you will begin to feel relaxed and even sleepy. Many patients report having fallen asleep during their treatment, but in fact they are awake. One of the side effects of the medication is that you may not be able to recall what happened during your visit, which can make you think you slept. But in fact, you are in what’s called twilight consciousness so that Dr. Oyler can talk to you during your procedure. Oral sedation is ideal for more extensive procedures such as dental crowns, dental implants, periodontal therapy or full-mouth reconstruction.
