Thankfully, you don’t need to feel insecure about your smile any longer. Invisalign is a discreet solution to correct your bite and alignment concerns without brackets and wires. Although you would like to improve your smile, you may have a few restorations. There isn’t any reason to worry. Despite what you might have heard, you can still be a candidate for clear aligners even if you have crowns, bridges, or veneers; however, there are a few things you need to know to ensure there aren’t any complications while on your journey to a straight smile.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign is a preferred orthodontic system for teens and adults because metal braces aren’t used to reposition your teeth. Instead, a series of clear plastic aligners are worn over them to gradually move them into position. You’ll enjoy a comfortable, less restrictive solution to improve your smile without the hassle of brackets and wires.

Can I Get Invisalign If I Have Restorations?

There are several misconceptions surrounding Invisalign like you aren’t a candidate if you have had dental work, but this isn’t true. In fact, if you have crowns, bridges, or veneers, clear aligners can be the ideal treatment because nothing is affixed to your teeth. Although it is possible to benefit from Invisalign, your dentist will need to take a few precautions to avoid any issues that can arise.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are commonly used in restorative dentistry because they can enhance the health, function, and appearance of a tooth. Crowns make it a little more difficult to move your teeth, but it isn’t impossible. Since clear aligners aren’t bonded to your teeth, you won’t have to worry about your restoration falling off during your treatment. Your dentist will ensure your crown is undamaged and bonded well prior to beginning your orthodontic treatment.

Bridges and Veneers

A bridge can’t be moved using traditional braces because it will damage them. Invisalign is often a suitable alternative; however, you can expect slower tooth movements if you have a bridge or veneers. This is necessary to preserve your restorations, but damage can occur, especially with veneers. Don’t worry, your dentist can restore your beautiful smile without interrupting your orthodontic treatment.

Achieve a Straight Smile Today

If you have bridges, crowns, or veneers, you might still be a candidate for Invisalign. Your dentist will perform a thorough consultation to create a personalized treatment plan to move your teeth safely and efficiently into their best positions.
