TMJ Therapy and Botox®

The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) are the small connective tissues that attach the jaw to the skull bone. When strained or damaged, the TMJ may begin to tighten, making it difficult to open and close the mouth while also creating radiating head, neck, and back pain. These symptoms are indicative of TMJ dysfunction. This oral health condition may be caused or aggravated by unconscious jaw movements. Targeted Botox Therapeutic injections halt these excessive jaw movements, relieve pain, and reduce strain on the TMJ.

Treating Fine Lines & Wrinkles

The most common procedure associated with Botox injections is the reversal of aging signs like fine lines and wrinkles. Think of your skin like a newly made bed. Right after you make the bed, it’s smooth and unruffled. If you sit on it once or twice, the sheets and blankets are easily smoothed back out, but after repeated use, the sheets and blankets stay wrinkled even when you smooth them. Your skin works in much the same way. When you’re a child, the skin is smooth and wrinkle free. Over time, repeated movements (both conscious and unconscious) cause the wrinkles that used to smooth right back out to deepen, leaving creases. That’s where Botox Cosmetic comes in. Regular Botox injections, about three times each year, can reduce the number of unconscious muscle movements and decrease fine lines and wrinkles.

Why to Visit Dr. Oyler

When you think of Botox, do you imagine taking a trip to your local dental office? Many patients would say no, but actually, dentists are probably the ideal practitioners to provide Botox Cosmetic and Botox Therapeutic injections. Every dentist has advanced training and education that allows for a more complete understanding of how the oral and facial structures function as a whole than most other medical doctors. In our office, Dr. Brian Oyler has completed extensive training that allows him to provide Botox treatments for wrinkle reduction as well as headache, migraine, and TMJ therapy. Dr. Oyler studied under Dr. Martin Braun. Dr. Braun is a medical doctor who has performed more Botox procedures than any other practitioner in Canada. He leads the Vancouver Skin & Laser Center training programs for dentists and medical doctors who want to learn how to provide safe, effective Botox treatments.
