Implant-Supported Dentures

Restore Your Smile With Implant-Supported Dentures

Missing one or more teeth can seriously impact a person's quality of life. Having an incomplete smile changes your appearance, can lead to the deterioration of your jawbone, affects the way you speak, and makes it difficult to eat your favorite foods. Thankfully, modern dentistry offers several options for replacing missing teeth to restore the form and function of a patient's smile. For patients who are missing all or most of their teeth, implant-supported dentures are an excellent restorative treatment option.

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are a prosthetic, restorative dental treatment that can be used to replace a patient's entire row of teeth or all of their teeth with a number of strategically placed dental implants that support a fixed denture.

There are two basic types of implant-supported dentures:

  • All-on-X - All-on-x is an implant-supported denture that is permanently fixed to a number of dental implants (usually four, six, or eight).
  • Snap-On - Also called an overdenture, snap-on is a removable denture that is snapped onto a number of dental implants.

The Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures offer several benefits over the alternative (traditional, removable dentures):

  • There is no need to use sticky, messy denture adhesive.
  • They feel natural and secure inside the mouth.
  • They look natural.
  • Patients can continue enjoying all of their favorite foods.
  • The adjustment period is usually quicker than with traditional dentures.
  • Patients never develop sores on the gums or other discomfort due to a poor fit.
  • Implant-supported dentures stimulate the jawbone, helping maintain bone health and preventing deterioration.

The Implant-Supported Denture Treatment Process

The process of getting an implant-supported denture can be quite lengthy because it requires a patient's mouth to be prepared and for their dental implants to be placed. Depending on the patient, these processes can involve multiple procedures including tooth extraction, bone grafting, and dental implant placement. Each step is followed by a healing period to ensure the integrity of the jawbone and strong osseointegration between the dental implants and the jawbone.

Our dentists evaluate and talk with each patient individually to provide them with a personalized treatment plan and recommendations based on their unique needs and oral health goals. We are sure to answer any questions our patients might have and provide them with a realistic set of expectations for their treatment process, recovery time, and treatment expectations.

Each implant-supported denture is custom-designed and manufactured to each patient's unique specifications. We use a variety of advanced dental imaging technology, design software, and manufacturing tools to ensure our patients receive high-quality dental prosthetics that look, feel, and work just like natural teeth.

Treatment Options for Tooth Replacement: Are Implant-Supported Dentures Right for You?

If you have just one missing tooth or maybe a few missing teeth, but your smile is mostly intact and healthy, then implant-supported dentures are likely not the best restorative treatment for you. In these cases, one-for-one tooth replacement with a single tooth implant, multiple individual implants, a dental bridge, or a partial denture would make more sense because they could restore your smile while preserving your healthy, natural teeth.

For patients who are missing all or most of their teeth, implant-supported dentures are an excellent restorative option. They offer the ease of replacing all of your teeth (or an entire arch of teeth) at once with the benefits of dental implants. In order to be a candidate for implant-supported dentures, patients must be healthy enough to undergo the dental implant procedure which involves oral surgery and a process of healing and recovery.

How Much Do Implant-Supported Dentures Cost?

The total cost of treatment with implant-supported dentures can vary significantly depending on the patient, their course of treatment, the number of dental implants they receive, and their insurance coverage. The total costs include the dental implant cost, bone grafting cost (if needed), and the cost of one or two replacement arches of teeth. Implant-supported dentures are a restorative dental treatment, which means associated treatment costs are typically included in most insurance plans.

Our office team will be happy to provide you with an estimate of total costs once our dentists have a good idea of each step that your treatment plan will include.
